Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
