A man who laced treats with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys both nine and 10.
The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said items including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.
She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
